SkyWater Search Partners is looking for a Production Control Manager for a client of ours in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. This would be a full time, permanent opportunity.


Position is accountable for the production control functions.  The manager’s goals are to maximize customer satisfaction and operational efficiencies as well as well as maintaining the integrity of inventory planning and control systems. This individual will be responsible to achieve the maximum utilization and development of staff and equipment through effective planning based upon changing delivery schedules. This position will work closely with all areas of the company.  Must be a self-starter, able to meet deadlines, exercise sound judgment and the ability to achieve goals through people with minimal supervision. This manager must be a strategic and tactical goal driven individual with experience in continuous improvement principles in a manufacturing environment. The position requires a role model leader with high integrity and positive influence that embraces chance, has a continuous improvement mindset and a passion for exceeding company and customer expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversees the preparation of the daily dispatch reports indicating the priority and sequence of orders to be run through each work center with the most timely and efficient uses of labor, equipment and material.
  • Communicates and coordinates the daily prioritization of work orders with Sales, Production, and Management by leading the daily production review meeting.
  • Reviews customer requirements with Sales personnel and provide a promise date commitments within 48 hours of purchase order receipt.   This judgmental call is based upon material availability, job sequencing, shop capacity and constraint, and a general understanding of our capability.
  • Revise the schedule based upon current priorities and resolve any concerns regarding capacity, scheduled hours versus capacity, preventative maintenance schedules or other down time that may impact production to minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Oversee the issuing of all materials from inventory or customer stock in accordance with the production schedule and/or customer requirements and that the inventory records are updated.  Establish a plan for minimizing inventory and obsolete materials.
  • Direct and coordinate the ordering of materials, outside services and tools for production to arrive at the shop in time to start the customer order through manufacturing.  Oversee the efforts to ensure all these will arrive as scheduled.  .
  • Direct the material and information flows to ensure that production schedules, shortages and new part launches are effectively handled.
  • Use reports and observations to highlight projected delivery delinquencies in sufficient time to analyze, prepare and implement a recovery plan.
  • Recommend process improvements and efficiency enhancements to reduce waste and non-value-add procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with ISO quality standards for respective departments ensuring proper training and areas for continuous improvements.
  • Manage material requirements to increase inventory turns and minimize raw materials, work in process and finished goods inventories.
  • Assists in maintaining an effective system of communication throughout the company.
  • Direct the process of completing work orders to create the shipping documents and/or update inventory.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the Production Control, Shipping, Receiving and Transportation Departments.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, core values and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Desired Skills and Experience:


Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) in Operations Management or related field from a four-year college or university; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  .  Three to five years of management experience with at least three years Production/Inventory Control is preferred.  Full understanding of the theory of constraints and lean/continuous improvement principles.


Must be a detail oriented self-starter who is capable of accomplishing tasks within deadlines and short time frames.  Must be capable of multi-tasking and setting priorities.  Strong negotiation skills.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Demonstrated effective management skills.  Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook, ERP/MRP systems  with VISUAL ERP preferred.  .Extensive knowledge of production control and scheduling in a job shop environment.
