SkyWater has been retained by a well-established and respected financial services organization in the Chicago area to identify their next Deputy Chief Investment Officer:

This mission-driven organization is known for their phenomenal corporate culture, strong senior leadership team, and challenging work. This role is targeted to begin as DCIO with a smooth transition to CIO upon the incumbent’s upcoming retirement. We are looking for someone to set the investment vision for the organization and take this pioneer in the investment industry to the next level, managing about $30B in assets.

This candidate will own thought leadership, strategy, and will be a public face of the firm as well as a key member of the ELT, reporting to the CEO. The firm is a stable organization that has been around for almost 100 years, with an incredible culture & a talented leadership team that has been together for a long time (avg. tenure is over 13 years), along with having been awarded one of the Best Companies to Work For in Illinois 5x, and one of the best in the nation 3x.

The DCIO will help effectively execute the firm’s sustainable investment program. The DCIO will analyze and report on current and long-term economic and market trends, strategically oversee the day-to-day management of investment funds, represent the firm as its senior executive supporting the work of the Investment Management team, and support the firm’s Institutional Investment Services team in informing institutional clients and co-presenting at institutional business development opportunities.

*** We are currently only considering candidates in the Chicago area, or willing to relocate to the Chicago area. It is expected that the DCIO is on-site about 50% of the time. ***


> Monitor macroeconomic, geopolitical and other relevant risks that may affect investment performance and make recommendations to the Chief Investment Officer of proactive actions required to adjust for a changing investment environment. >Prepare presentations for internal and external stakeholders that clearly communicate relevant economic and market phenomena influencing the investment landscape. >Support the Institutional Investment department’s client service and asset raise goals by accompanying members of the team to meetings with clients and prospective clients and presenting information on funds, the economy, and markets. >Monitor, evaluate, and recommend improvement as required for all business processes executed by the Investment Management Department staff to ensure efficiency, adequate internal controls, and mitigation of known and controllable risks. >Ensure that all investments held comply with the Investment Policy and are consistent with best business practices as outlined in documented policies, procedures, and processes. Recommend and implement changes to these documents as appropriate. >Mentor staff, develop appropriate goals and action items for the Investments team as well as direct reports that align with organizational goals, and monitor goal progress to ensure completion. >Write relevant and timely investment papers for distribution to clients and web sites. >Establish close working relationships with other members of the Investment Division and key resources employed by the firm’s asset managers and other strategic partners. >Leverage relationships with external asset managers for delivering outstanding investment results and mitigating investment risks. > Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of asset allocation associated with plan liability management along with s defined contribution fund offerings and ancillary managed account services. >Collaborate with internal partners to ensure integration, analysis, and reporting of Environmental, Social, and Governance factors in the investment process. >Ensure quality control for the accurate preparation of investment-related materials for meetings held by boards of directors and the applicable committees of the firm and its subsidiaries.

Desired Skills and Experience

>Master of Business Administration or comparable graduate degree or equivalent work experience. >Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation preferred. >Fifteen years of progressive investment experience including significant experience managing people. >Knowledgeable and conversant regarding the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors in investing and business practices. >Demonstrated success in building a network of industry peers. >Experience interacting with and representing an organization with a diverse set of clients/stakeholders. >Strategic mindset with a Global view that communicates effectively to all audiences
