Electrical Estimator

SkyWater Search is partnering with a large local firm hoping to add an Electrical Estimator. 

In this role, you will:

  • Develop detailed financial projections for electrical systems across different project types, such as design-build and traditional contracting models.
  • Collaborate with project teams to outline and formalize the electrical work required for each project.
  • Analyze and assess project documentation, including architectural and engineering drawings, to understand the full scope and requirements.
  • Prepare comprehensive project scope documents that outline assumptions, exclusions, and any critical project details.
  • Identify, select, and manage subcontractor involvement, ensuring alignment with project timelines and objectives.
  • Facilitate clear communication with suppliers and clients regarding project needs, specifications, and Requests for Proposal (RFP).
  • Create and maintain detailed lists of all necessary materials and equipment needed for each project phase.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, conduct site visits, and participate in project walkthroughs to gather necessary information for accurate estimating.
  • Utilize estimation software to input relevant data, ensuring that all labor and material costs are accurately captured and tracked.
  • Assist in the preparation of project budgets, ensuring alignment with the cost expectations and standardized pricing.
  • Monitor project schedules, identifying potential obstacles that could affect project timelines and addressing them proactively.
  • Determine the specific requirements for tools, equipment, and materials, including rental items, and ensure their availability.
  • Facilitate smooth project transitions by attending initial meetings, helping with setup, and supporting post-project reviews for improvements.
  • Engage in client design discussions, guiding them through the pricing process until final agreements are in place.
  • Perform additional related tasks as necessary to ensure the success and smooth operation of ongoing projects.

Qualifications:

  • A technical diploma or a comparable qualification in a relevant discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in estimating for electrical projects or a related field.
  • Proficient in using estimating software; familiarity with Accubid or similar platforms is advantageous.
  • In-depth understanding of electrical systems, industry codes, and cost estimation methodologies.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical conduit and wiring sizing and selection.
  • Ability to accurately analyze and interpret complex project documents, including detailed plans and technical specifications.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on client satisfaction.
  • Proficient in a range of software tools, including MS Project, Excel, Google Workspace, and Bluebeam.
  • Strong time-management abilities, with a proven track record of meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in price negotiations and working closely with subcontractors to secure favorable terms.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Develop plan & spec, design-build, and design-assist estimates.
  • Communicate and define the trade-specific scope of work.
  • Review architectural, structural, mechanical, and specialty systems drawings and specifications.
  • Write detailed scope letters outlining assumptions, clarifications, and exclusions.
  • Identify and compile a list of necessary subcontractors (minimum three per trade) and manage their scope of work.
  • Communicate Request For Proposal (RFP) details, scope, and coordination items.
  • Compile lists of required materials and equipment for projects.
  • Attend pre-bid conferences, walkthroughs, and job site visits to ensure accurate project assessments.
  • Enter take-offs into Accubid Anywhere and ensure labor and material extensions are up-to-date.
  • Assist in developing project budget estimates and standardized assemblies/unit costs.
  • Understand project schedules, phasing requirements, and identify any potential risks.
  • Identify general condition needs such as tools, equipment rentals, and other miscellaneous items.
  • Participate in project turnover, setup, and post-project reviews.
  • Join design meetings with customers until the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) is established.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 2-year Associate’s degree is required.
  • 5-10 years of experience as an Electrical Estimator in a related industry.
  • Proficiency with computerized estimating software, including Accubid Anywhere, is highly preferred.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical specifications and drawings.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes, specifically the National Electrical Code.
  • Experience sizing electrical power conduit and wire.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with a focus on customer follow-through.
  • Proficiency in MS Project, Google Suite, PDF File Editor, Word, Bluebeam, and Excel.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and meet project schedules.
  • Experience reviewing equipment, soliciting pricing, and negotiating favorable terms.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
