We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will collaborate cross-functionally to design custom test fixtures, custom tooling, and custom machinery to test and qualify sub-assemblies and components. The ideal candidate will be proficient in 3D modeling software and will thrive in a fast-paced environment where prototyping and hands-on assembly are key. You will have the opportunity to work with advanced tools, including metal and composite 3D printers, and must be comfortable with fabrication and a machine shop.

Responsibilities

  • Work cross-functionally with engineers in quality, electrical, applications, and controls to design custom test fixtures, tooling, and machinery that support technology solutions for new production line launches and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Utilize prototyping methods including 3D modeling software, 3D printing equipment, cnc machining and fabrication equipment, and manual assembly to test and prototype design solutions
  • Ensure designs account for reliability and preventative maintenance, considering maintenance needs from the outset.
  • Adapt to changing project priorities in a dynamic work environment, managing multiple small projects or multi-day projects as needed.
  • Assist with cost estimating and project management responsibilities as needed

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering related discipline and 5-15+ years of engineering experience
  • Demonstrated abilities in CAD proficiency (Solidworks, Creo, or Inventor)
  • Demonstrated understanding and practical applications of engineering principles such as design for manufacturability, FEA, GD&T, and the product life cycle
  • 3+ years of experience prototyping - including experience creating and testing prototypes through machining, 3D printing, and/or fabricating
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
