General Counsel

A dynamic and growing real estate development company is looking for a General Counsel to join the team in Minneapolis. This is a highly strategic and hands-on role for an experienced attorney with a strong background in real estate law.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the company’s primary legal advisor and build the in-house legal function.

  • Provide counsel on all aspects of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, leasing, development, financing, and joint ventures.

  • Oversee contract negotiation, structuring, and documentation for complex real estate and corporate transactions.

  • Advise senior leadership on legal risk, compliance, governance, and regulatory matters.

  • Manage relationships with outside counsel and ensure cost-effective, high-quality legal services.

  • Support strategic growth initiatives and serve as a business-minded partner to the executive team.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school; admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

  • 10+ years of legal experience, including significant work in real estate development, acquisitions, leasing, and financing.

  • Combination of top-tier law firm training and in-house or direct company-side experience strongly preferred.

  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to balance legal risk and business opportunity.

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to work independently, build systems, and grow a legal function from the ground up.

  • Excellent communication, judgment, and leadership skills.
