Director of Engineering
We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Engineering for a mid-sized, privately held manufacturer in Minneapolis. In this role, you will manage product development and quality, overseeing a diverse, cross-disciplinary staff of engineers and support teams. You’ll contribute to product portfolio planning and collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to drive success. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of the full system and product life cycle, coupled with a strong background in managing teams and driving engineering excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a multidisciplinary engineering team of Electrical, Mechanical and SW Engineering backgrounds, ensuring alignment with strategic technology roadmaps and fostering innovation in product development.
- Collaborate with product management and operations for successful implementation.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the product design life cycle, focusing on continuous improvement and innovation.
- Drive recruitment, retention, and development of top engineering talent
- Ensure compliance with industry standards such as UL and TUV, maintaining a strong emphasis on product safety and quality.
- Foster a fast-paced and agile environment that promotes creativity, efficiency, and adaptability in response to changing market demands.
- Monitor KPI’s within the group
- Manage the division’s assets and analyze existing production methods to recommend improvements for streamlined manufacturing processes.
- Manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and project timelines
- Drive initiatives to optimize manufacturing processes, improve product performance, and reduce time-to-market.
- Coordinate with technical support personnel to conduct prototype runs and plan and organize test procedures for current and future design components.
- Conduct independent technical investigations to address quality and functional issues, coordinating necessary activities to resolve them
Requirements:
- BSEE or related, advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 15+ years of progressive experience in engineering leadership roles within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven track record of successfully leading multidisciplinary engineering teams within product developments
- Strong understanding of UL and TUV standards and their application in product development and manufacturing.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset and a passion for driving continuous improvement and innovation.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines.
