Director of R&D
We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Director of Research & Development to lead product innovation and development at a growing medical device contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO). This leader will oversee R&D initiatives, driving catheter design and development programs while mentoring and managing a cross-functional team. The role requires a balance of strategic vision and day-to-day technical leadership in a regulated, cleanroom environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead R&D activities for catheter design, development, and commercialization.
- Manage and develop a team engineers, supervisors, and cleanroom staff.
- Serve as both a player/coach: providing technical expertise while driving organizational and team growth.
- Partner with engineering, operations, and commercial teams to translate customer needs into manufacturable solutions.
- Ensure design control compliance, risk management, and regulatory readiness across development programs.
- Oversee project timelines, budgets, and resources for multiple active development projects.
- Contribute to strategic planning around new technologies and customer partnerships.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (advanced degree preferred).
- Proven experience in catheter design and development (required).
- Background in CDMO or medical device environments strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated success leading R&D teams, with ability to manage both ICs and supervisors.
- Strong project management skills; PMP or similar certification a plus.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional leadership abilities.
