About the Company:
A pioneering biotechnology company advancing regenerative therapies to address critical gaps in transplant medicine. The organization is developing innovative, tissue-engineered solutions through decellularization and recellularization techniques, with the goal of restoring function in patients with end-stage organ disease. The team brings together cross-disciplinary expertise and a mission-driven focus to push the boundaries of organ and tissue science.

Position Overview:
The Kidney Scientist will play a central role in the advancement of bioengineered kidney development efforts. This individual will lead or support experimental design, execution, and analysis related to tissue engineering, cell biology, and kidney function assays. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with kidney physiology, nephrology research, and/or tissue-engineered constructs, and is motivated to help bring functional organs closer to clinical application.

Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct experiments focused on the development and evaluation of bioengineered kidney constructs
  • Isolate, culture, and characterize kidney-specific cell types for use in recellularization protocols
  • Perform functional assays to assess viability, integration, and physiological performance of bioengineered tissues
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data; prepare technical reports and present findings to internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams in cell biology, biomaterials, bioprocessing, and quality
  • Contribute to technology development initiatives aimed at improving kidney scaffold performance and function
  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and ensure compliance with internal and external quality standards
  • Support scientific publications, patent filings, and regulatory documentation as needed

Desired Skills and Experience

  • PhD in Cell Biology, Physiology, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in kidney biology, nephrology research, or organ systems biology (industry)
  • Experience with primary kidney cell culture, 3D cell systems, or organoid models preferred
  • Strong knowledge of renal anatomy and function, including filtration, reabsorption, and transport mechanisms
  • Familiarity with tissue decellularization and recellularization methods is a plus
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; comfortable working in a dynamic and fast-paced R&D environment
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage experimental workstreams and troubleshoot scientific challenges
