Product Engineer II – Batteries
Skywater is hiring a Product Engineer II to support and lead a batteries division at a manufacturer in Chicago.
The Product Engineer II will the technical expert for the division, overseeing testing & validation, assembly processes, quality control measures, and manufacturing scoping functions. This role will lead and support the launch and modification of new and existing product lines relating to batteries and battery systems.
This is a vital role for this business unit, and will encompass engineering principles related to continuous improvement and lean, quality control, experimentation and testing, process optimization, applications, and manufacturing.
Salary Range: 75k-105k + bonus
This is an on-site position.
Responsibilities
- Supervise the assembly process for battery packs. This role will require an understanding of and contribution to BOM creation, assembly processes, quality control measures, and ensuring efficient production processes
- Design and develop custom battery test scripts and procedures to validate performance, thermal behavior, quality, and safety
- Evaluate battery packs and modules, including root cause analysis, acceptance criteria establishment, feasibility testing, RMA procedures, and establishing test protocols and procedures
- Design and execute experiments for established criteria and quality testing.
- Work with data acquisition systems including but not limited to testing software such as Labview
- Develop and improve upon manufacturing processes using lean principles
- Create and maintain detailed BOMs
- Support quality teams in resolving technical issues, field failures, and/or process non-conformances
- Lead and support PPAP launches, product changes, and/or line transitions dependent upon customer programs
Desired Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related field and 2+ years of applicable experience
- Prior experience and knowledge of batteries and battery systems including themes of voltages, power, currents, capacity, state of charge, current, and/or resistance
- Proven experience designing and executing test experiments and scripts to validate safety, performance, and quality
- Proven experience relating to root cause analysis, performance analysis, process optimization, BOM management, and launch engineering
- Excellent written and communication skills
