Warehouse Manager
The Warehouse Manager is a key member of the Operations leadership team responsible for overseeing all aspects of warehouse operations in a wholesale food distribution environment. This role ensures efficient product receiving, storage, inventory control, order fulfillment, and product shipping to meet customer expectations while maintaining high standards for food safety, quality, and workplace safety.
This role will be in different temperature controlled environments including room temp, refrigerated temp, and freezer temp.
Schedule: Sunday – Thursday 8a-5p
Responsibilities
- Warehouse Operations
- Direct and lead warehouse operations to ensure timely, accurate, and efficient fulfillment of customer orders.
- Oversee daily activities including receiving, slotting, inventory management, picking, packing, shipping, and returns processing.
- Set and monitor performance standards related to cost control, productivity, order accuracy, inventory integrity, food safety, and workplace safety.
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize warehouse processes and reduce waste, errors, and inefficiencies.
- Ensure equipment functionality and reliability to minimize downtime and support operational goals.
- Prepare and manage the department's Annual Operating Plan including labor planning, cost forecasting, and productivity targets. Planning and Scheduling
- Create and maintain labor and warehouse activity schedules at least two weeks in advance to meet business demands and service levels.
- Adjust resource allocation and schedules proactively in response to order volume changes, supply chain disruptions, and operational challenges.
- Communicate schedule changes and operational updates to team members and cross-functional partners. Inventory Management
- Oversee inventory accuracy and integrity, ensuring proper FIFO (First In, First Out) practices to minimize spoilage and obsolescence.
- Monitor inventory levels to prevent shortages, backorders, or overstock situations; coordinate closely with procurement and sales teams.
- Optimize use of labor, equipment, storage space, and material handling resources to maximize efficiency. Food Safety
- Enforce strict adherence to food safety standards including receiving, handling, storage, and shipping of perishable goods.
- Identify and address root causes of quality or safety issues; implement corrective and preventive measures.
- Maintain all required documentation related to food safety, sanitation, quality control, and regulatory compliance (e.g., USDA, FDA).
- Conduct and document routine warehouse inspections to ensure cleanliness, pest control, and temperature compliance. Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of warehouse associates and supervisors to build skill, accountability, and engagement.
- Manage staffing needs including hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluation.
- Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement through clear communication and positive reinforcement. Customer Focus
- Ensure on-time and accurate delivery of high-quality products to meet or exceed customer expectations.
- Collaborate with customer service and sales teams to address and resolve customer concerns promptly.
- Implement process improvements based on customer feedback to enhance satisfaction and service levels.
Desired Skills and Experience
- 5+ years of experience in warehouse, distribution, or food service operations experience
- 2+ years of management or supervision experience
- Strong knowledge of food safety practices (HACCP, GMP, etc.).
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams and drive operational improvements.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficient in warehouse management systems (WMS) and MS Office Suite.
- Bilingual English & Spanish is a major plus
