International Trade Compliance Manager
An established industrial organization with global operations is seeking an experienced International Trade Compliance Manager to oversee export and import compliance activities across its supply chain and international business operations.
This role will guide the organization’s adherence to U.S. and international trade regulations while enabling efficient global movement of products, equipment, and materials. The position works cross-functionally with engineering, operations, logistics, sourcing, and commercial teams to ensure regulatory compliance while supporting business growth.
The ideal candidate will bring deep knowledge of export controls, product classification, and licensing requirements, along with experience managing complex cross-border transactions.
Responsibilities
- Global Trade Compliance Program
- Manage and continuously improve the organization’s global trade compliance framework, including policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Conduct reviews of international shipments and transactions to verify regulatory compliance and identify areas of risk.
- Develop mitigation plans and partner with internal teams to resolve compliance gaps.
- Track changes in global trade regulations and communicate implications to internal stakeholders.
- Serve as an internal advisor on export and import compliance matters. Export & Import Operations Oversight
- Evaluate international shipments to ensure compliance with export and import regulations prior to shipment.
- Review shipping documentation and regulatory filings for completeness and accuracy.
- Coordinate closely with logistics partners including customs brokers and freight forwarders.
- Investigate potential compliance issues and determine appropriate escalation when required. Product Classification & Regulatory Analysis
- Classify products and technologies under relevant export control frameworks, including EAR and ITAR.
- Assign and maintain HTS tariff classifications for import transactions.
- Work with engineering and product teams to understand technical characteristics impacting regulatory classification.
- Maintain supporting documentation for classification determinations and audit readiness. Export Licensing
- Determine when export authorizations or licenses are required based on product classification, destination, and end use.
- Prepare and manage license submissions through appropriate regulatory systems.
- Monitor license conditions, expiration dates, and usage limitations.
- Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on licensing timelines and regulatory requirements. Documentation & Trade Operations Support
- Ensure import/export documentation complies with applicable customs and regulatory requirements.
- Support free trade agreement initiatives and supplier documentation where applicable.
- Participate in compliance audits and improvement initiatives related to international trade processes.
Desired Skills and Experience
- 7+ years of experience in export compliance, trade compliance, or global trade operations.
- Strong experience supporting complex international shipments and regulatory requirements.
- Direct experience with EAR and ITAR product classification.
- Experience managing export license applications and approvals.
- Experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and regulatory authorities.
- Background supporting or building trade compliance processes and controls.
