SkyWater is thrilled to be partnering with a growing financial institution looking for an experienced Chief Financial Officer to serve as its senior financial leader and a key member of the executive leadership team. Reporting directly to the CEO, this highly visible role will lead the finance organization and serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership, ownership, and the Board.

The CFO will play an important role in supporting the organization’s next phase of growth, with responsibility for strengthening capital planning, liquidity and balance-sheet management, forecasting, performance analytics, and business-line profitability. This leader will also help modernize the finance function, leveraging technology, automation, data, and AI-assisted tools to create more forward-looking financial insights and improve decision-making.

The organization operates across traditional consumer and commercial banking while also offering a broader range of specialized and technology-enabled financial products and services. This creates a level of complexity beyond that of a traditional community bank and requires a CFO who can balance strong financial discipline with an entrepreneurial, growth-oriented mindset.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned banking finance executive with deep technical expertise, experience operating within a larger or complex financial institution, and a proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams. This individual will be proactive, solutions-oriented, and comfortable partnering across the organization to help the business scale responsibly.

Responsibilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required; relevant certifications preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience within financial services.
  • Prior bank CFO or comparable senior finance leadership experience overseeing Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, capital, liquidity, investments, and financial reporting.
  • Experience within a larger or complex financial institution, ideally $7B+ in assets.
  • Deep expertise in bank finance, including capital planning, ALM, liquidity, deposits, investments, treasury, regulatory capital, and balance-sheet management.
  • Strong technical accounting, financial and regulatory reporting, tax, controls, and audit knowledge.
  • Advanced experience with budgeting, forecasting, scenario modeling, profitability analysis, and management reporting.
  • Proven ability to modernize forecasting and decision-support capabilities using technology, automation, data, and AI-assisted tools.
  • Track record of improving profitability, efficiency, cost structure, technology, and business processes with measurable results.
  • Experience supporting growth initiatives, new products, acquisitions, technology investments, strategic ventures, or other significant transactions.
  • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary finance teams, including hiring, developing, and retaining strong talent.
  • Strong executive presence with experience presenting to boards, owners, regulators, executives, and other senior stakeholders.
  • Proactive, hands-on, solutions-oriented leadership style aligned with an entrepreneurial, mission-driven culture.
  • Experience with prepaid cards, payments, sponsor banking, BaaS, fintech lending partnerships, or fintech-generated deposits highly valued.
  • CDFI, ECIP, impact lending, community banking, or other mission-driven banking experience preferred.

  • Proactive, solutions-oriented, and hands-on, with strong alignment to Sunrise’s mission, values, and entrepreneurial culture.
  • Experience building continuous, technology-enabled forecasts using modern financial systems, automation, data, and AI-assisted tools.
  • Proven track record of hiring, developing, retaining, and leading strong finance talent while setting clear expectations and creating accountability across the organization.
  • Strong technical accounting, financial reporting, regulatory reporting, tax, internal controls, and audit knowledge.
  • Understanding of prepaid cards, payments, sponsor banking, fintech lending partnerships, and their economics, risks, and compliance requirements.
