Senior Electrical Controls Engineer
SkyWater is partnering with a growing engineering firm in the Twin Cities who’s looking to hire a Senior Electrical Controls Engineer for their team! This is a great opportunity for an experienced electrical or controls engineer who’s ready to grow into a people leadership role in the future. In this position, you’d start as an individual contributor driving the design and execution of electrical control systems, with a clear development path toward eventually stepping into an Electrical Engineering Manager position. Responsibilities
- Drive the concept and engineering design development of electrical control systems.
- Oversee and participate in design documentation, schematic design, electrical panel design, PLC & HMI programming, field installation, and project commissioning.
- Create a collaborative team culture that emphasizes continuous improvement, accountability, and learning.
- Work cross-functionally with other engineering disciplines, project management, and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Support project budgeting, scheduling, and scope management to meet client expectations.
- Provide high-level guidance on system architecture, design reviews, and tool adoption.
- Provide oversight and technical support during field commissioning, startup, and maintenance of electrical systems.
- Establish and maintain departmental procedures and processes to align with company goals.
- Mentor, coach, and develop engineers at all levels as you build toward a future management role.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field of study.
- 10+ years of electrical engineering, controls engineering, or combination of similar engineering experience.
- Proven design experience with PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, and motor controllers.
- Proficiency with Rockwell or Siemens controls hardware/software a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply innovative technical solutions with minimal oversight.
- Interest in mentoring team members and growing into a people management position.
- Ability travel domestically and internationally as needed (less than 10%).
