Staff Software Engineer (Minnesota-hybrid)
SkyWater is partnering with a national organization that is scaling the engineering team behind its Twin Cities based digital products group.y. This is a growth hire tied to real demand, not a backfill, and the team specifically needs more AI-forward technical talent to continue building with growth in mind.
This is a chance to work at a principal level inside a large, stable company while still building software the way a smaller company does: direct access to the business side, full ownership from idea to production, and a team that is actually investing in AI-forward development rather than talking about it. Responsibilities
- Own features end to end, from an early conversation with a business stakeholder through backend, data, and user-facing interfaces
- Use agentic AI tools (Codex, Claude Code, or similar) as a core part of daily development, not a side experiment
- Architect solutions for loosely defined, ambiguous problems, accounting for edge cases up front
- Build to production standards: testing, CI/CD, observability, and recovery paths from the start
- Act as a technical lead on project-sized teams and mentor other engineers
Desired Skills and Experience
- 7+ years of software engineering experience for Senior, 9+ for Principal, or equivalent experience without a bachelor's degree
- Real, hands-on experience building with AI coding tools inside an actual workflow, not just familiarity with them
- True full-stack range across backend, frontend, and systems-level work, not a narrow specialist in one layer
- Experience operating at a fast, ambiguous pace, ideally from a smaller company or a role that required wearing more than one hat
- Strong communication skills, comfortable presenting technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders
