Director of Safety
SkyWater is partnering with a fast growing client in Southern Minnesota to find a Director of Safety for their corporate team! Our client is an established, privately-held business with a sizeable network of operations across the Upper Midwest. They’re an industry leader in their space and they’re looking for someone who can help elevate the strategic direction of the safety department. The Director of Safety will be responsible for developing & implementing strategic safety programs, leading incident investigations & implementing corrective actions, and partnering with executive leadership & operations teams to drive the safety culture across the organization. We’re looking for someone with around 15+ years of progressive EHS or Safety experience, experience leading safety programs across multiple sites, and someone who’s moved an organization from reactive safety management towards a proactive safety culture. Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic planning, development, and execution of a company-wide safety program.
- Partner closely with executive leadership and cross-functional leaders to drive safety initiatives.
- Oversee risk assessment, regulatory compliance, incident prevention, and workers' compensation programs.
- Ensure timely, accurate adherence to OSHA, state, and local reporting and recordkeeping requirements.
- Lead investigations into workplace incidents or near misses to determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and facilitate training programs to prevent recurrence.
- Develop leading indicators, safety metrics, and root-cause analysis processes to proactively identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the safety department.
- Champion behavior-based safety practices to reinforce safer habits and decision-making at every level of the organization.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of Safety Managers.
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science or similar field of study.
- 15+ years of experience in EHS, Safety or Risk Management positions (or combination of similar positions).
- Proven experience developing & implementing safety initiatives and safety culture-building initiatives.
- Experience overseeing multiple sites required.
- Knowledge of behavior-based safety initiatives (SafeStart or similar programs).
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence & build alignment across diverse teams and executive leadership.
- Experience working in an industrial, agricultural, food production, or similar manufacturing environment.
