Field Engineer
SkyWater is partnering with a well-known general contractor who’s looking for a Field Engineer for their growing team in Wichita Falls, TX! Our client is privately held, has been in business for 70 years, operates across the United States, and is known for taking on high-profile, complex construction projects. This role is open due to growth, and we’re looking for someone with a strong command of survey field operations, construction layout, and plan reading who can work independently and contribute to a collaborative team environment. The Field Engineer will be responsible for performing and overseeing survey layout, field computations, control point work, and construction inspections across active project sites. Responsibilities
- Perform survey computations and verify layout accuracy against plan documents.
- Establish, locate, and interpret horizontal and vertical control points in accordance with established standards and tolerances.
- Execute field survey operations including traversing, triangulation, GPS surveys, total station work, leveling, topographic mapping, and construction layout.
- Create and check field notes for standard surveying operations including as-built surveys, boundary surveys, profiles, and cross sections.
- Read and interpret site plans, foundation plans, highway plans, cross sections, and horizontal/vertical curve data.
- Conduct civil and quality inspections to ensure construction activities meet plans, specifications, and applicable codes.
- Create and update Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) as they relate to each survey task.
- Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, engineers, and project managers to align efforts and resolve field issues.
- Other duties as assigned.
Desired Skills and Experience
- High School Diploma (Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in construction field engineering, survey engineering or a related position (or combination of positions).
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction plans including site plans, foundation plans, and cross-section drawings.
- Experience performing staking, elevation control, and a variety of standard survey controls.
- Experience with AutoCAD preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
