Machining Lead
We’re partnering with a well-established precision manufacturer to find a Technical Lead for their Machining department. This is a hands-on technical position supporting a team of machinists while partnering closely with Manufacturing Engineering to optimize CNC processes, troubleshoot production issues, standardize best practices, and improve overall machining performance. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled CNC machinist or programmer looking to expand their technical influence without moving into a formal management role.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical expert for the multi-turret machining department
- Support production by troubleshooting machining, tooling, setup, and programming issues
- Partner with Manufacturing Engineers to optimize CNC programs, cycle times, tooling, and machine performance
- Standardize machining processes and develop best practices across the department
- Train and mentor machinists on setups, programming concepts, blueprint interpretation, and machining techniques
- Validate first-piece inspections and ensure quality standards are maintained
- Assist with new product introductions, prototype machining, and process improvements
- Develop setup sheets, work instructions, and technical documentation
- Act as the primary liaison between Manufacturing Engineering and production
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and safety
Desired Skills and Experience
- Associate degree in Machining Technology or Engineering preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered
- 5+ years of CNC machining experience in a high-precision manufacturing environment
- Extensive experience with twin spindle, multi-turret CNC turning centers
- Strong understanding of CNC programming and G-code (editing and troubleshooting)
- Experience working with Fanuc and/or Siemens controls
- Ability to read complex blueprints and interpret GD&T
- Proven ability to troubleshoot machining processes, tooling, and setups
- Experience mentoring or training machinists is highly preferred
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers and production teams
